Zanzibar is an  archipelago made up of 4 large islands and several smaller islands. The main island, Unguja, has long been a centre of maritime trade. Its capital, Stone Town, where much of the architecture is still well preserved, you can breathe and feel the footprints of the rich and cosmopolitan history of this city, a unique place where East and West converge. Outside the city, the island abounds with endless white sand beaches popular with kite surfers, but also wild, rocky and quiet coves.

Join us as we explore the island, its various coasts, forests, mosques and more! This trip is for anyone who enjoys adventure, food and good company. We've planned beach days, boat rides, mosque visits, a spice farm tour and more! This trip is open to singles, families as well as couples! Bring your loved ones along!

Burgundy Roots prides itself in unique and curated travel experiences. In order for us to fulfill our promise, we must pay our suppliers ahead of time. Please note that once your deposit is processed, it cannot be recuperated as our suppliers are paid upfront months ahead of time. Thank you for your understanding. Deposit/payment terms:  Please note that the first TWO deposits and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. Deposits must be  received within the time specified at the time of booking in order to confirm your booking and avoid automatic cancellation. If you are unable to attend for whatever reason, you may transfer the trip to a family member or friend. 

Cancellation charges: 

Please note that deposits and payments are non-refundable.  In the event of a travel ban due to COVID-19 or any other unforeseen circumstances, retreat dates will be altered to a later date. No refunds will be granted. Discomfort/unease with regards to travel or quarantine upon return will not be considered. All payments are final and non-refundable.

Final payment:

Final payment is due 90 days prior to the trip. Final payments are due 90 days prior to the trip. Any cancelation made 90 days or more prior to the trip is subject to a 50% penalty (your card will be charged another 25% of the retreat fee). Any cancelation made 89 days or less prior to trip is subject to full payment of retreat fee.  

Vaccination: It is incumbent upon each traveler to check the rules and regulations in regards to vaccination demands in each country. Each traveler must ensure that they meet the criteria upon entry, as no refund will be granted if one does not meet the criteria. You may sell your slot or send someone else on your behalf instead, however no refund nor credit will be granted. 

Welcome to the island of Unguja, popularly known as Zanzibar!

Upon arrival, guests will make their way to Makundichi (we will connect you with the hotel to book your airport pick up) Upon arrival, you'll  meet the group and team at our hotel. Check in begins at 3:00 PM. Our team will be there to ensure that check in is smooth and easy for everyone.

Once you are settled in, we will get together for refreshments and introductions! Get to know the rest of the group through games and activities!

Please note that airport pick up and drop off is not part of the package. 

After breakfast, we'll head to Paje beach and enjoy a beautiful morning.

We'll stay there until lunch and visit a Madrassa on our way back inshallah!

Drive to seaweed centre and visit with an expert local guide. At seaweed centre you will learn about seaweed farming, which is the second largest industry on the island. Located in Paje, this local enterprise creates opportunities for women algae farmers to improve their standard of living and participate in economic development activities that benefit the community. Depending on the tide, you may see the seaweed harvest.

After our visit, we'll take you to a beautiful and secret lagoon for a swim in Fresh water. We'll spend the rest of our afternoon there, enjoying a swim and delicious foods.

After dinner, we will get together and play a series of card games to help us get to know each other better.

Today we will leave the south coast to make our way to the north! We'll spend 4 nights in Kendwa beach! After check in, you can enjoy a walk on the beach and some much needed free time. 

We will connect again in the evening for group activities.

Enjoy a free day at the beach to do what you wish! You can jet ski, get a massage, swim in the ocean and enjoy delicious foods!

Grab your sunscreen, bathing suit, snorkelling gear (if you wish), as we will go to the starting point of the Safari Blue, a full day of activity. You will embark on a traditional Dhow (sailing boat) and head to a paradisiacal sandbank in the middle of the ocean. You can swim, snorkel and enjoy Zanzibar's clear waters!

Afterwards, we'll head to another island for a delicious seafood lunch!

Enjoy a day off to do sleep, jetski, go to the SPA and do what you wish! If you wish to try out a traditional sunset Dhow, please let us know! Costs; $45-$50 USD

As we check out of our hotel and prepare for the last leg of our journey in Stone Town, we'll stop at a spice farm to learn about the island's rich history and connection to the Spice Route.
