I have been itching to go to Zanzibar for years, but I‘ve never had someone to go with. It’s also quite far to get there from Australia, so I was really happy when I found Burgundy Roots through Instagram.
From the testimonials and the photos of past trips, I could tell that I would be in good company with other like-minded Muslim travellers. This put me at ease because I know that the island is not really geared around solo travellers and this way the important things like accomodation, activities and transferring around the island would be sorted out for me.
Wafa has been running this itinerary for several years and improving/evolving where she takes us, which takes all the guesswork out of the trip. The places she takes us to are top tier and the owners know, trust and respect her.
She also has been working with local guides long term, who add additional local knowledge and advice to the itinerary. For example, our tour guide in Stonetown was both incredibly knowledgeable and provided an interesting itinerary of the area - which you don’t always get if you organise your tours yourself. This was my first tour with Wafa but it won’t be my last inshallah!
