I found the lectures with Mustafa Briggs to be the best part of the trip; really allowed for the trip to be that extra bit special. These coupled with tourist activities spread out made the trip a comfortable first trip to Brazil!

A truly fantastic and thoughtfully curated trip. From experiencing the real history and culture of Brazil to learning about the history of Muslims in Brazil from Sheikh Mustafa Briggs, every part felt meaningful and enriching. I especially appreciated the focus on giving back to local communities, while still having the perfect balance of activities and downtime. Great accommodation, delicious food and an amazing group of people made it even more memorable. Trips like this allow us to experience parts of the world we might not otherwise access, in a way that feels purposeful and authentic. Huge thanks to Wafa and her incredible team for such a memorable experience!

My third time experiencing a Burgundy Roots retreat, and this time in Brazil — and once again, I came away with nothing short of the most magical and soulful journey. 🤍 I met the most beautiful souls, strangers who so quickly became sisters, and had the privilege of exploring one of the most breathtaking countries with them. Wafa and her incredible team pour so much love, intention and heart into every single retreat, and you can truly feel the barakah in every moment. From the deep and enriching connections we make with one another, to the love we develop for the country we’re visiting, and most importantly, the beautiful connection we leave with Allah. This was my first trip with Burgundy Roots and to South America. The organizers were so welcoming to everyone and it was great to have local guides like Ramon and Karim who could share their experience with us. I loved learning about Islamic history in Africa and Brazil through the sessions with Sheikh Mustafa and the rich history and culture of Brazil through tours around different areas of the city. Some of my favorite parts were visiting the local mosque on Jummah and having lunch with their community as well as being able to take a capoeira class and spending time with the kids there.

My husband and I wanted to travel somewhere unique, experience a lot of great activities, and meet like-minded moderate Muslims. Burgundy Roots completely delivered on all fronts. Rio de Janeiro offered a vibrant mix of stunning natural beauty, energetic beach culture, and rich urban history that completely exceeded my expectations. We learned about the history of not only Brazil but how migrant culture created the kaleidoscope of people in modern day Brazil. Walking the coastline of Copacabana Beach to Ipanema Beach we felt like we were visiting an exotic destination. We also explored the rainforest with gorgeous waterfalls, ate at several excellent restaurants, shopped festivals, street fairs, malls and even prayed Jummah at a local mosque. The best parts of the trip included the precise organized and classy manner in which it was conducted, the Muslim friends we made from around the world ( ie Sweden!), and the scholar we were blessed to learn Islamic History from throughout the trip — Sh. Mustafa Briggs. Highly recommend!
